  • high altitude clouds hdri/video ??

    Hi guys,

For an upcoming project I am going to require some kind of HD video footage of flying above clouds. I will be animating flying into the cabin of an aircraft so will also need some side on HD video footage of the clouds also. Does anyone know of anyway to do this, other than use real video footage ? It needs to be photoreal...

    Cheers

    Steve

if you are looking for serious animation of the clouds which is photorealistic, VUE 7 is your best bet. We have used it for similar needs and were super happy with the results. Its a little tough to figure out, but its worth it.

      Thanks

Does it integrate with vray well...or is it a case of rendering out the clouds and plane seperately then compositing back together ? I guess I would need to use camera tracking data too..

yeah its a separate renderer, its a separate application all together. We had success exporting camera data from bouju and also from maya into VUE. So I think 3ds max part should also work. If your objects is not going to be crossing the clouds and is just flying above the cloud/horizon plane then you can render the ground + clouds in the same layer then comp that with your vray render.

That sounds very cool. Yeah, the plane will be above the clouds...from inside it will just be flying alongside the cloud formations, so that should be fine.

          Thanks for the help

Sorry, one last thing. Did you get vue 7 or vue 7 xtreme ? I like the look of the integration of vegetation etc

we always worked with the extreme...I didn't really handle that part though, so I don't really know why we used it.

Hi Steve did you end up using VUE for this? Also could you please post some images of the finished project if you can?
                Kind Regards,

                  Hi,

We finally decided on using HD footage and matching the cgi to it.

Ive attached a couple of images. I was fairly pleased with them, but they were no where near the standard of the imagery I saw some time ago on this forum...cant remember who did the aircraft imagery.
