  • Max material ID question

Does anyone know if its possible to assign a material ID higher than 15 to a material in the material editor? I know you can apply a material modifier to an object and give it a higher material ID but I need to actually assign it to materials in the editor and the roll down menu only seems to allow 15 IDs... very frustrating! I'm hoping it just something simple that I've overlooked?

Don´t mix it up with the material-IDs for the multi-sub-object-material. The material-modifier assigns an ID to the geometry like you do in e.g. the edit-mesh-modifier. This ID adresses a sub-material in a multi-sub-object-material.

The material-ID-CHANNEL is something different. With this you can separate any sub-material for the post (almost like the object-id-channel)...

...and no, you can only assign 15.

Search the max-help for "Material ID Channel".

Sorry you're correct (tired brain). I'm talking about the material ID channel. Lets say I had a single object that had a multi/sub object material applied to it and that material contained 20 sub materials. If I wanted to create MultiMatte render elements to enable me to select each sub material in post, how would I go about doing that if I can only assign 15 material IDs in the material editor... can it be done?
