  • Duplicate objects in max

    Hi All,

I've imported an fbx file (from revit) into max and there appears to be thousands of duplicate objects (the duplicate objects have the exact same name as the original object). for eg. instead of 1 wall, I have 2 (both in the same spot). Does anyone know of a way to fix this (perhaps a script)? Trying to avoid doing this manually as it will take days! Thanks.

    Cheers,
    Rob

try different import settings. Or when saving from Revit try different export settings.
    Kind Regards,

I'm curious to know if there is a script that could select the duplicates automatically.

It shouldn't be too hard, although would never be fool proof.
I would say to have it find parts with the same number of faces/triangles who's coordinates are the same should provide pretty accurate results.

It Would mess up though if you have a group of objects with the same topology, but the coordinates were all moved. I know some objects will import with the pivot at zero. In this case all but one would get selected for removal.
I'm pretty sure that case would be rare enough for the script to still be extremely useful.

I'm not too sure that would work on non-poly objects though. would be nice if there was maybe one that would work with those too. maybe the script could temporarily add an edit poly modifier, count the faces, then remove it. I'm not sure if that would work though.

        Here you go

        http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/find-coinstances

This is a life saver but it will be a little slow in a complex scene.
        it also does duplicate faces.
