  • Lenscare Plugin v Combustion dof

    Hi,

Does anyone have experience of using Lenscare with Combustion? I'm interested in how it compares to the built in dof operator. I'm finding that I'm doing more dof in VRay because I can't get it looking good enough just using Combustion.

    Any tips would be welcome....

    Thanks.

hi, i'am using lenscare with AE. wich gives pretty nice results imo. there're some problems with aa though, but with short deadlines pretty good.
nothing against real dof in vray of course.

Comparing to Combustion dof, Lenscare Does 10x better job.
It's much slower in Combustion than in After Effects, but not
      killing render times anyway.

I think there is demo version of lenscare. It does red cross to image,
      but it's ok for testing.

Far more realistic look but as everyone mentioned it's not perfect if you're using it with a depth matte - by far the most realistic dof you can get aside from rendering it.

          Thanks for the quick replies!

I think I'll have a go with demo. I realise I'm never going to get it looking as good as VRay but it sounds like it's a big improvement on Combustion.

          Thanks,

Anyone used Sapphire zdefocus? Used it a few times, seemed pretty good, though I've not used lenscare so I can't compare!

Saphire doesnt do real Z-Defocusing just like the T_Lensblur from the Tinder collection. The create differently defocused versions ("samples") and blend them according to the Z depth.

I use Lenscare, way better than the Built in DOF from Combustion, we use a Zdepth Pass and Main pass onlly, both PNG 24 Bit with Alpha Interlaced and they are way smaller and load faster than RPF files.....Lenscare has way more options to to control the iris and easily change the dof pass depth buffer.....
Two heads are better than one ...
....but some head is better than none.....
