  • map text around a bottle

    hello all

We have a difficult job. We have to map a text around a bottle in a certain way. see image.
but we don't find a good way to do that. the text loops the bottle in a spiral and that's the problem. we tried with a loft, but because of the different cross section you get gaps. finally it should look like the text is printen on the bottle, so it should wrap the bottle as exact as possible. best would be if the text is mapped on the bottle, but how?

    any ideas?
    thanks in advance.

    best regards

Can't you just map it cylindical and rotate the map ?

n/m...it wouldnt overlapp in that case. What Version of max are you using ? Splinemapping in 2k9 might come in handy

What about Cylindrical mapping and doing the wrap in PS ?

No idea on the mapping but have you tried "Conform"ing the test ribbon to the bottle?
            www.dpict3d.com - "That's a very nice rendering, Dave. I think you've improved a great deal." - HAL9000... At least I have one fan.

what about mapping it on a plane, and simulate with cloth?

not too hard, cut the faces you want in the bottle. Select the faces that you are mapping to, and while they are selected do a "unwrap_UVW" modifier on them. In sub-object select mode (face), select them in the UV editor and at the top goto (I forget what it's actually called) "Mapping", then do a "Walk to closest face" unwrap on the faces you selected. Render the UVW template and paint in Photoshop.

BIG THANK to all of you!

this is the best forum I know.
I will try different ideas and post the final rendering soon.

but how do I cut the faces? I mean it's a very difficult shape in 3D space...

                  best regards

I would wrap a spline around it, apply a sweep modifier and just use a spline line to sweep around it, and do a cookie cutter proboolean merge. I'll mock something up tomorrow.
