3GB switch - why do some machines crash?

Anyone have any ideas why the point at which a 32 bit machine w/3GB switch crashes is different between boxes? I've noticed that some of the 32 bit nodes crash at around 2.5GB while others crash at more like 2.8GB...

this is a nature of 3gb switch, since its a hack on winxp its not a really stable solution. My guess anyway.
