  • texturing tree problem

    Hi guys,

Im trying to texture the trunk and branches of a tree. The problem I am having is that where the branch attaches to the trunk, there is a terrible join that I cannot work out how to flow nicely so that the trunk and branches all look like one flowing piece of wood/bark. The trunk and branches are all the same mesh and are part of some evermotion trees that I purchased, but I need to make the textures look perfect for an animation I am creating.

Any techniques/ideas to do this ?
    Regards

Here is a pic of what it looks like. As you can see the branch texture is harsh where it joins the trunk. Any ideas how to make this flow well ?

hi I usually use unwrap modifier to texture my trees. pelt mapping is a very good option.
Neil Blevins has one tutorial on texturing a tree trunk with pelt mapping. here it is:

Cheers for that. Maybe I can line up the branch/trunk intersections better using this method.

I still cant get a nice blend between the trunk and the branch.....even with Blevins method, if you check out his uvwmapping checker texture, even that is not blended well. Its close but no cigar basically I have zbrush, which allows you to paint in 3d, but im thinking that maybe bodypaint3d may be the way to go. Or is it deeppaint...??

Have you seen the BlendedBoxMapMaker? It is part of the soulburn scripts. Might fit your needs.

Here is a tutorial about branch mapping:

                Reflect, repent and reboot.
                Order shall return.

Hmm, that looks very interesting. Thanks for the link.

I kind of had luck by carrying out the UVW unwrap tutorial above and then welding the base of the branch to the trunk...that seems to work quite well.
