for just straight up vid conference I've not seen much better than google talk actually.
Skype is ok if you have one of the 2 or 3 logitech Only camera's it supports. Otherwise you're stuck with a poor image.
One upside to skype is plugins. I used one that did real-time screen sharing pretty nice. It was also kind of buggy though.
Most people already have gmail though, so for just vid conference I'd do that. I am only really allowed to share files internally, so i can't vouche much for file transfer on anything. I just copy files to the other guy's server if I need to do that. As long as it stays in the US it's really fast. Overseas is terribly slow though.
