  • Vray Scatter - using VrayScatterTexture

I'm not sure how many out there are using Vray Scatter 2 - we just got it yesterday and I'm having trouble getting the color Tex option to work. The instructions are a bit thin on the ground maybe somebody can talk me through the process, it seems at it doesn't seem as though this option is affecting my proxy colors at all - I know I'm missing something very simple

Thanks as always for you're help

Your materials must have VRayScatterTexture on them somewhere (I usually use it in a composite map in diffuse set to soft light) with "use obj. color" ticked. This should read more like "use gizmo color". It means it uses the color texture you specify in the VRayScatter object rather than one you've set in the material.

Hi there. Sorry for digging up an old thread. Im still completely confused as to how to get vrayscatter texture to work. I have looked at the video tutorials and docs and it seems that you have your base plain (where the objects are scattered) set to a diffuse colour (grass bitmap for example). Then your vray proxies are set to whatever shader they require (a blade texture for individual blades). SO now, where do i put the vrayscatter texture ? I have tried creating one in a comp layer as described above, but it doesnt work well and it also doesnt look like thats the way it is done on the video tutorials.

Any help or a walkthrough would be appreciated...
          Regards

I haven't used it in a while and don't have it installed atm, but there was something backwards feeling about how you use that. I think you put your "actual" diffuse map in the slot on the VRS object, and then use the VRS Texture in the diffuse slot of the material you apply to your proxies. It seems like it should be the other way around to me, but I know I had it working fine before.
