Suppose you have pre-rigged models done in 1 system unit scale and you need to bring it into a scene set to a different unit. how can you rescale characters to avoid the mess

We have done the following with characters and it has seemed to work every time:
- open scene file with character, change units to desired scale; save scene.
- open secondary scene; merge in character.
This should work. Just make sure that when you save the character, you are saving it with the same scale as the scene you are merging it into.

that doesnt work. when you change the system scale from 1 unit = 1 meter to 1 inch then the character is too small

Ah ok.... what about just linking everything to a dummy, and then scaling the dummy up/down? That way you can scale up/down as much as you want.

i changed the system units, then tried glabal scale and the dummies in the rig were screwed up

In this situation I...
Pointcache
the character in one file and then scale the point scaled mesh with the rig removed (delete Skin or Physique from the stack). Works a treat if you don't have to interact with too many objects, even then you can bring just those objects in an animated to them and then just us a dummy for your scaling to get them to fit.
The Point cache replaces the need for a skin modifier and scales nicely.

cooooooool. DOH!!! not its changed. but it shall forever be immortalized in this image. thanks tammo. Im surprised that ive been able to hold on to at least 3rd place for post amount. i remember when i held 1st place for a long time way over Vlado. but now Vlado rules supreme as he should.

i think there should be a new descriptive scale. im probably a little or a lot older than a senior member. what was the name of the forum we used to use when we were alpha testers before vray hit the market. ahhh those were good old days. i remember when incremental irradiance maps were first introduced. and the first incarnation of motion blur. fun times. ive still got some of the alpha copies on my hard drive.

Yes that was an interesting time.
I remember my first try with GI animation and it was flickering a lot.
It was a rotating box above the ground and i thought the flickering was some kind of bug and easy to fix.
Then we asked vlado if he could make vray able to load animated textures that we needed for a music video before running into the deadline.
He made it of course.Reflect, repent and reboot.
Order shall return.
