where did my transform gizmos go?

I seem to have lost my transform gizmos. hitting the 'x' button does not bring them back. they have completely disappeared, just gone kind of grayed out. any ideas?

Try +/- to increase the size of these gizmos. Maybe this help...

I think the "X" key is the hot key to toggle gizmos on and off? I hit it all of the time by mistake.

Camera/target icon missing

I have recently had something similar, my camera/target icons suddenly have gone missing in some models?
I have no idea why?
