  • Website Lightbox Clones Suggestions

I'm just wondering if anyone has setup a website with a Lightbox and if any of you have recommendations. I'm thinking about redoing part of my website gallery.

The two I've tried are Shadowbox and Multibox.

I didn't like Shadowbox because it didn't easily allow for borders and description text.

Multibox does everything I want except it has an IE7 bug which closes when first opening.

    Anyone have any recommendations?

Here's a list of the Lightbox Clones out there:

I was looking for these a while a go to add something besides pictures, but kept on using the orginal lightbox. These other two interested me:

Also I don't know if you've seen this website:

It's got loads of great stuff

Your last link is good, but there's so many to choose from... that's why I asked here lol.

Multibox - I tried and liked although it was a pain to set up. I had to use a DW extension which included some extra code not given in his installation instructions (which also presented some confusion.) Once I finally got that working, I came across two bugs which I reported to him. It appears he hasn't updated his scripts in a while.

Lightview - I really like this but I really don't want to pay $60 to use something that others are giving away for free. Basically, I'd be paying for rounded corners in my opinion. In some ways, it also bugs me that someone makes something for free, and others build upon their kindess then start charging for it. I guess it's principal, but I may just go that route.

Lightbox 2 - The author hasn't updated his code in a while either. This is the original. Supposedly, Slimbox is a highly optimized version of the original code and is updated more often. If I went with Lightbox 2, I'd probably choose Slimbox over that.

Yep, Lightview looks very nice. I was hoping to use that one, but the pricetag put me on hold at the moment of research, so I stayed with the original Lightbox until I need something more. Hopefully there is a good free alternative.

Looking over the other options, this one looks kind of nice:

Well, I'm testing out the Lightview demo at the moment and it seems to be doing everything I need it to do - cleanly. Other than the pricetag, I like it so far.

I'm going to set up a few pages and see how it runs before making any commitments.
