  • solid gradient on multiple objects

    hi,

i want to map a bunch of objects with a single gradient map. but i want that each object is colored with an unique color, not with the corresponding gradient range.
it would be a little like the random mode 'per object' in BerconGradient, but that would not be random, that would be based on the actual mapping......

    any idea ?
look at the following picture. the global map is a custom gradient map, but each object has an unique solid color applied to it

In the diffuse, you can use a tile...
in the advanced controls, tile setup.. add your gradient.. I did use blue for the example..
There is the color variance tick box, lower right.. play with the values..

the result will be color variations based on your bitmap, or in your case your gradient map.

    hope it helps

      thank you.
      i'll try this.
but i initially wanted to map thousands of objects separated by 4 cm joints... if i decide to map a surface this technique you mention vould be of some use.
      Thank you

        Material By element

Are your tiles made out of individual 3D meshes??? If so you could use the max modifier 'Material by Element]

-Collapse all individual meshes to one object [Warning --do not weld!! you want each tile as a separate element.

-Create a Multi/sub material with all your different colours and the applied modifier will randomly assign different material ID's to your mesh elements.

-Remember also when creating blended maps/materials that you can use multiple UV maps with different map channels which allows for much more flexibility.

        Hope this helps

I was not feeling the joints so big.. that is why I did suggest the tile map..

i didn't know the method you exposed. this is usefull to make tests of tile sizes before actually modeling them.

why not select all objects and add a UVW modifier? it will fit to all objects. just give it a map ID different to the individual objects own UVW mapping. then set the gradient to the modifier
