    Hi guys,
I'm looking for advices regarding max 2010....I read that it's slower than 2009 and some other issues...I'd like to install it but first I'd like to know pros and cons from you

I don't want to install it in several machines and wasting my time if it is not working well

    Thanks!!!

    Fernando

I haven't done any time comparisons here, but i've moved across the 2010 for the single reason that the viewport is heaps, heaps faster than 2009.

i've only used it a little but aside from the slightly slower rendering and wonky interface it works well.

The new viewport lighting previews are excellent.

No looking back for us. We have 2009 and 2010 installed side by side, and I have had no reason to open 2009 again yet.

We haven't noticed the render bug here, but most of our large textures are procedural so the bitmap pager problem isn't much of an issue for us either way.

            Max 2010

I am loving it! I am not sure about it being slower, but the interface is nice and a lot of little bugs have been fixed.

The only thing we've noticed as being slower is the actual start of the program. After a fresh reboot of the machine, it takes several minutes to open, the whole process is just slower, from the time it takes to display the splash screen, "initializing", loading plugins, etc. Compared to 2009 on the same machine, it is definitely slower. Not as bad once it has been run once during the current session of the machine though for some reason.

                which OS? xp or Vista?

here the boot is slow on xp64 and faster on Vista 32, the same as 2009

Everything here is on Xp 64...

We have both 2009 and 2010 on the same machine though, and notice 2010 is worse than 2009.

Same here, on Windows 7 RC (7100)

Max scenes made in 2009, tripples the rendertime in 2010.

Max scenes made in 2010, render as they should render.

                    .... Ain't that odd ? ( VrayDisplacement problemo ?)

I was just notified that Neil Blevins updated his soulburn script pack. He has added a new script:

bitmapPagerManager: The Bitmap Pager controls have been removed from the preferences of Max2010. This script gives you some of that control back, especially the ability to turn it off, which may speed up renders on 64bit OS's that have lots of RAM.

                      http://www.neilblevins.com/soulburnscripts/soulburnscripts.htm

Thanks to everyone for your support.
