    Who yells at their computer?

I have a newer Vista 64X with 12 GB ram and a 512 video card. When I pick things on screen everything goes white. This happens in MAX and Photoshop. In photoshop when I hover over the icons they come back as I hover, but in MAX it just stops responding.

My video card is a Quadro FX 3700 and I have the latest and greatest drivers. I can't be more frustrated. Should I assume it is the video card? What else would cause this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I think it's a Vista thing.

I think yelling @ the computer is very therapeutic. At least for me anyways. It could be many different things. Did this just recently start happening or has it always been a problem? It will help narrow down what the potential problems could be. I have had my fair share of strange Vista viewport behavior so I will try and help any way that I can.

Have you tried running Max with Vista Aero turned off? That is usually a good place to start. Or you can turn off the composition something setting in the advanced display options in vista. I don't remember the exact names as I am not on my Vista machine right now. I know that it took me forever to get a decently stable viewport performance out of Max2009 & Vista with a nVidia GTX280 video card. I would have thought that the MAXtreme drivers with the Quadro cards would work better for you like they do for the guys here with Quadro cards.

It's a Vista thing. Happens to my computer whenever the video card is processing the display. It's a real pain in the butt. It essentiall locks up the computer until the video card can finish.

                  firmware maybe?

I had problems like that with my cards here until I updated the firmware on the video cards.

Not sure if there would be one for the 3700, but you never know. Get out the old floppy disks. lol

I have Vista ultimate 64bit with Aero disabled. 8BG RAM, and running max9x64, sp3a and never have encountered this problem. My vid card is a QuadroFX 1700.
I remember testing out max 2008/2009 awhile ago and had awful problems with display in Max (mostly with material editor.)
                      Maybe it's a Max issue?

quadros are so overrated. We had nothing but problems with them running on xp 64 in maya and other software.

I cant really recomend anything, since I dont know vista (and not going to).

I had punched a computer once, for it being a shit put a good dent into it. This was about 10 years ago though, it was one of the flat top compaque presario.
Ironically it lived until today without breaking. The only thing that stopped working was cd rom, otherwise it was a perfectly normal machine

OT: I agree about quadros, but so far, this one has been good enough

I wish I had punched my last computer with less force, it totally died immediately and is still dead

...wish I had the funds to go all Mac, sorry, OT again

macs are overrated too...overpriced anyway. I was suprised to learn they are not 64 bit, lack of software etc.

I've always used ATI cards and have never had any problems (except for my 1st ATI-all in wonder about 10 or more years back). There alsways seems to be some driver issue with NVidia so even though they perform slightly better, I'll stick with ATI for now. I now have an ATI HD2900 XT and considering geting a FireGL for my next workstation.
                              Kind Regards,
