  • Selling my bad debt to some local Russians

Got stung by some C^&* that went underground after his company was liquidated. But When it started up again as a phoenix and I was still getting no joy,

I told him nicely that this is my livelyhood, pay me, you got your work from my company.

So now I decided to sell it for 50% of its value to my friendly local russian hoods,

anyone else here been banging their heads off walls trying to get money out of clients?

it's better get 50% than 0%...i'm pretty sure that your Russian friends have russian mafia connections
i remember many years ago in Peru was a collection company" men on yellow" , they wear tuxedos with hats of course in bright yellow
they follow the people that are late in their payments everywhere with boards...they were pretty successful collecting money.

Some clients think that consultants are partners if they don’t get paid you don’t get paid too….sad, but it’s what is happening in this terrible economy

    Good luck!!
    show me the money!!

I have a bitching contract that I ALWAYS send out that's 5 pages long and stipulates everything including access to their daughters.

I had gone online and researched a whole bunch of contracts, then took various pieces that I liked and cobbled it together like Frankenstein.

I've had several clients consult their attorneys over it, and they usually poop their pants and ask me to drop certain clauses.

I make them sign on the dotted line with blood.

Yeah I do have some people that have been late. Then I start calling them. Then I start calling their accounting departments directly. And if that doesn't work, I sick my girlfriend on them.

Men in yellow - how utterly fantastic. Sounds like a good idea to me

Same crap up north Tom, in fact, my boss is away today to a "meeting" to find out if he can get some money back from a job we finished over a year ago.

If it's not difficulty in getting money, it's people being ridiculous about how much jobs will cost. I can appreciate jobs won't pay as much for a lot of us, but some people really are taking the mick.

This recession has made me completely loathe everything to do with the architectural graphic industry. If I could get out of it, I would. I'm working on it though. Opportunities don't create themselves!

Hehe I love these types of stories.

My old boss sometimes had to hire some rather large men to take possession of clients cars until they decided to pay.

He also once didn't get payed (along with many others) by some guy who promised a pretty hefty sum. I then found the guys flickr account and sent unflattering pictures of his bikini clad wife to any email address associated with the idiot's company including different departments and such.

He also got stung by a couple of women who started a business and decided not to pay for their website after it had been completed. He decided to let the business and website grow for a few months before having the hosting company remove their server and transfer the domain over to him, which they now of course cannot obtain as long as he holds it.

                paybacks a bitch.

I've been seeing this quite a bit lately. Its funny how much stock clients put in THEIR deadlines but when it comes to paying us they take their time. The girlfriend suggestion is funny...i just sent my wife last week! Sent her to drop off a set of drawings and a printed copy of the invoice...and said to deliver it specifically to the guy...and to not take no for an answer. I think hand delivering the invoice with a pre-paid FedEx envelope....directly to the client is a good idea too...no more "its in the mail" crap. I'd like to know how much of it is stalling and how much is someone simply letting it slip between the cracks.
