  • SOAP -- SWOP/Multilight for Vray? Pretty cool new tool

Saw this posted over at the Maxwell forum. I haven't tried it yet but the demo vids look pretty promising - and it's free!

    *********************
Motiva SOAP is a free realtime postproduction tool witch allows not only change colours of the entities but their influence in the whole scene.

Probably the best way to understand what's Motiva SOAP is look at this video.

    Vimeo video (features): http://www.vimeo.com/5613002
    Mirror in Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLg3D...e=channel_page

    Why free?
Motiva SOAP is free and ever will be, Motiva SOAP was designed with educationalpurposes, our intention is sell a full tutorial of how it’s made this app step by step, line byline. Covering topics as ‘why is so important the linear conversions?’, ‘the maths behindthe colors’, ‘what’s the way you must focus a realtime app’ , basic shader development...
Until we have a publisher for it we can’t guarantee if it will be released as open source for every one or only for the people that purchase the tutorial.

    Requirements
    - DirectX 9.0.C June '08 or newer
    - Microsoft Framework 3.5 (handled by the installer)
    - C++ Runtime Libraries (handled by the installer)
    - Pixel Shader 3.0 capable card

You can freely test it from our downloads page: http://www.motivacg.com/descargas_en.php

Also, the material converter script looks interesting.

That does look stunning. Its nothing we don't do anyway in post with adj layers, but seems like the controls could are quite nice and intuitive.

Agreed, but it's the potential to bypass some complex masking that interests me the most. You can achieve it all manually with passes/masks, but the way you can quickly adapt a colour and have it affect GI/reflections is harder to do manually.

It's a bit of setup up front though. I need to experiment to see how the render times stack up in practice.

What strikes me is the simplicity in adding modifiable elements after the fact.

It should work with any render engine. Check out the video in the first link - it was done with Mental Ray.

Not sure I'd agree - Swap allows you to change textures as well so the incorporation of normal information and UV information gives it a greater range for materials. That's a pretty neat trick too, at least IMO

right, well last i remember swap did only one object per scene. Has that changed?

What exactly do you need to export channel-wise in order to get this to mask out the areas of color you want to see changed?

You just export the base image, and one where the desired material is black.

                            That's it.

                            Magic.
