  • Network rendering question

I dont have time to research it and was hoping I could get a quick short answer.

I currently have at work 3dsmax 2010 32bit and V-Ray 32bit running on 1 workstation and 3 slaves, they want to upgrade my workstation to a new quadcore running XP-64bit. If I have them install max 2010 64bit and V-Ray 64bit is that going to cause problems when sending jobs to the render farm that's running all 32bit software? or is it better to have the 32bit max and v-ray installed on the new box for compatibility?

    Thanks in advance,

    -dave

We're all very busy here so don't be lazy and do a search.

Yes you can mix and match 64-bit and 32-bit is the short answer. Long answer depends on your scene and if it requires more than the 3GB mem cap.
    Kind Regards,

Edited again: Further clarification, you can mix, but any individual backburner job will only render on one or another.

Edit: Morne beat me, and apparently I was wrong.

Someone else correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know Backburner sees 32bit and 64bit and two separate 'plugins' so you cannot mix the two. When you submit the job it will only render on you 32bit or only on your 64bit, depending which option you choose when you submit.
