  • active wind facades

    Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knows how to re-create something like this in 3ds max?

It doesn't need to react with a wind modifier, it only needs to look fairly similar.

    Cheers,

    Henry

I'd try a search, I distinctly remember this being discussed before.

I couldn't give you specifics, but this definitely looks relatively simple. The best approach would be VRayScatter with regular distribution, and a rotation map.

Yes, VRay Scatter will do it with procedural maps... if you own VRay Scatter.

We had to do a visualization for a client with an installation by the same artist; before the days of VRay Scatter.

We went through several solutions; I was not directly involved in the final solution but I can tell you, any attempt at a wind based simulation will not work the way nature does it.

But with Max Script and some clever wave and ripple maps you can get some decent patterns.

grab bobs example file and play with that.
You can paint up a large animated map in AE and use that as a rotation map. I did a similar thing for a logo animation a little while ago but sadly I cant show the results...... big NDA
