  • UERGENT Help PC failed...

    Hi Everyone,

So as I am starting another project my main workstation dies. Luckly I have another one, but I gotta get this one fixed soon.

It was running fine for about 3 years. Now, I left home one day came back to power it on and I got a very loud beep.
I think they are called abnormal beep sounds its much much louder then the regular POST beeps
    .
    I have asus p5w ws64 pro motherboard.

I did not let it run long enough to determine the beep code yet. But do any of you have any idea what it could be? I googled a bit to find that it can be anything from power supply to video and ram...

Well, unpin everything you can, even ur videocard and hdd. Put away any ram modules, except one. Reset ur bios (reset/clr cmos jumper on ur mb) and try to start ur pc. U may need to check ur ram modules. Then, if anything failed - there's two options - mb or ur power supply. Check ur capacitors on mb first btw...
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

Look for any that appear black or might have cracked. I always keep an extra power supply around for these type of situations. As long as you have a good extra power supply and one stick of memory, you can usually narrow it down to one of the three: memory, power supply, or mobo.

Yep - handiest thing you can do is bastardise your main working pc - open both cases and stretch the power supply cables from the working machine across into the dead one - power the bare minimum of parts to get it started - mobo, boot drive and gfx card if needed. I've had the psu go more than anything else - a lot of the time it's got enough power to start up some bits, but not enough to power the entire machine. Also the beeps will normally tell you what's wrong in combination with a few error lights on the board - do a search for "post beeps" and the model of the mobo in google and you should get what you need.

so it was the powersuply afer all. Took it apart and saw that the video card's fan wasnt spinning.
Placed the card into another pc and it was working. Then went out and got another PS and everything worked.
            Thanks for your helps guys.
