I'm going on vacation in the Alps and ultimately Vienna. I have not been there for about 20 years. Any "must see or do" suggestions? Thanks in Advance.

Funny you're asking that, I just returned from a 1-week NYC trip to Vienna and I wish my home city could be more like Manhattan.
It really depends what you're looking for.
Vienna is strong with fine arts (but not contemporary), you really have to check out the Museumsquartier, Kunsthistorisches Museum, for the great works of Klimt, Schiele, etc.
Vienna is also strong with theatre and opera, but I'm not really interested in that, so I can't say much about it.
There are many old buildings to check out of course, mainly churches. The Ruprechtskirche is like 1000 years old. One creepy place is the catacombs of the Stephanskirche (St. Stephens Cathedral).
For shopping and food, I have to say, if you're coming from NYC there is nothing to see here.
But many americans love the Schnitzel and Schweinsbraten. I loathe it, being a vegetarian
Salzburg is OK if you're looking for Mozart Kitsch. Visually it's nice because it's surrounded by the Alps and there is a special feeling. (There are no alps in Vienna). I don't like it because the mind of the people is stuck in the 19th century, they are like ultra-conservative.
For some really nice landscapes in autumn you can make a trip to the Wachau, it's 1 hour from Vienna, at the danube. Some great castle-ruins and valleys there.
