I'm finding I'm spending waaaay too long (well it seems that way, lol) compositing layers / color correcting / matting / fixing / editing the final animation than I'd like to. I just finished a nearly 2 minute animation made up of 16 shots - each AE project had color correction, motion blur, the works... Of course that means every shot needs to be rendered in AE before editing and that process takes 15-20 mins each. Today I re-worked all the comp's and spent more than a day doing it...
For those of you without the luxury of handing your projects to a compositor / editor - how long are your comp / edit jobs taking? We have a pretty fast "normal" setup here - dedicated server, fast drives and full duplex gigabit network so the only thing I can think of would be an alternative compositor but I'm not sure how much time could be saved that way either...
I'd guess this is primarily an issue of me not estimating enough time for the compositing phase... Any thoughts / experiences on the matter you'd like to share?
