  • Animating Boolean Impression?

    Hi all,

Anyone know if its possible to animate a boolean cut, or some other method.

I want a pole object to go into another object and leave its impression (from a sectional view)

Can't really figure out how to do it, apart from rendering 2 scenes, 1 with impression and 1 without, then comping and animating between them.

    Cheers for any help!

Animated edit poly modifier - make a circular poly section and you can do an animated extrude using the epoly modifier. Alternatively you could do a tiny circular extrude that lies nearly level with the surface and animate the verts down. You could also try an animated pro boolean. Not sure how it'll work with vray motion blur if you're using that - haven't tried it myself!

For the sectional part the vray camera clipping plane might work?

I just did an animation with an animated pro boolean.
I moved a box upwards starting from covering the gadget completely.
You can tilt the box slightly so that the back of the objects is revealed first.

But it only works if you have a clean mesh.

In my case it was an imported CAD Model and there were errors in about 5% of the rendered frames.
I had to fix them in 2D.

I also tried an animated slice modifier but the result was much worse
      Reflect, repent and reboot.
      Order shall return.

Excellent, got the animated pro boolean working nicely.

It really is picky about the mesh though I have found :/

Thanks for the help guys, that's one less headache to deal with!
