  • music cd

It's been awhile since i've gotten a new cd, so this new one i got for christmas surprised me. it cannot be played on a computer cd drive. Plays fine on car cd player or home cd player but not a computer. I understand the intention is probably to prevent people from ripping the music and i sympathize...but...i sometimes like to listen to cds at work on my computer. Any suggestions on getting it to play on a computer?

it launches with a movie that takes over the whole screen and has no controls. the movie lasts about a minute then there is nothing. The computer recognizes it...it just won't play the songs on the cd. When you access the files on the disc and double click them to play them, the computer says it has no software to run them.

Did you try opening it from Windows Media Player or iTunes?

its probably one of those cd's that has a bunch of extra crap on it and autoruns. If you just brows to it you will find the tunes them selves and can probably play them.

Have you tried holding down the shift key while loading the cd? That used to be how I got around those pesky autorun features. Not sure if it still works or not as I havn't run into the problem for quite a while.

Holding down the shift key simply prevents the cd from launching.

I stand corrected. "Advanced" VLC player did the trick. Thanks for the help.

I'm suprised none of you had heard of this - sony and a couple of other labels started putting REALLY heavy drm on their cd's for a while so you couldnt rip them.
What label was it on, and how recent was it? I thought they'd stopped it now, there was a court case or two over it.

They were supposed to have done a recall and stopped it in 2007, there was a huge lawsuit in france with them and they lost a lot of money over it.
