  • New PC - Windows 7? ATI FirePro V7750?

    hi guys

looking at a new workstation, are max and vray working well in windows 7?

also, is anyone using/recommending the ATI FirePro V7750 1GB video card? not sure i can afford it though. i was looking at the NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800 768MB but have been warned it may be crap.

    cheers
    nik

don't get ati, don't get quadros. Go get geforce latest possible within your budget it will be the best purchase. Yes vray and max work fine under win7 I have no problems with it.

        Yes thats a good advice.
        Geforce is your best option.

Nvidia announced a new generation recently but there is no streetday yet.
        It's called Fermi or GF100.
        Reflect, repent and reboot.
        Order shall return.

in my limited experience with ATI it was always buggier then nvidia. And quadros are too overrated, most useless cards I ever work on, considering the price point (some can be 4-5k).

Yes, the Quadros have some driver optimisations for some programs but i never felt they where worth the money for 3ds max.

It was even possible to softmod certain geforce gamecards to quadros with the same benchmark results.
It was the same hardware with other drivers and a huge pricetag.

I don't know if thats still the case with the newer cards, i had a 4600(?) card.

I think you only really need a quadro if you are running something like flame/flint/inferno which won't start without the prescribed hardware like quadros or stone disk arrays.

I agree, geforce is the way to go. I run a geforce 8800 Ultra, soft modded
to a Quadro FX 4600, picked up the geforce card for £85 on an auction site,
bargain considering the price of a second hand Quadro 4600, £450 ish.
