  • Primawege problem

My PC (XP 64) seems to be infected with some kind of virus which, so far, I haven't been able to get rid of. Every now and again, when I am looking at a webpage using Firefox, the page reloads to a site saying 'Ad served by Primawega'.

I can't figure out how to stop this. I've tried running McAfee, Search & Destroy, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware etc, but none have found anything. Someone has even said go to add/remove programs and uninstall the Primawega program, but there isn't anything in there!

    Anyone have any other ideas?
    Kind Regards,
    Richard Birket

Have you tried just searching your local drives for "Primawege"?

Google? ..It seems you not the only one with the "Primawege" problem.

From a post on "Software Daily News":

"Malwarebytes is pretty popular, but it’s a waste of time where Primawega is concerned. Just go to your Control Panel, click on Programs and Features (Vista/7) or Add/Remove Programs (XP), select the Primawega program and click Uninstall or Remove. Check the boxes in the uninstall menu and click OK. It takes a minute at most."

      Hopes it can help

Saw this crop up a few times. Doesn't help.

I had something similar recently. Uninstall and reinstall Firefox.

Yeah. Probably your best bet. Also delete every possible leftover Firefox directory.

You may want to try uninstalling it with Revo Uninstaller; you can also have it scan and delete all the registry entries it finds.

Had you recently installed any new Firefox extensions or viewers?

                    @Tricky

I guess it was a little thin. I should have wrote "I bet you allready tried this...."

Other than that I would also recommend a uninstall of FF, delete all FF folders, and then remove all Primawege entries in registry before reinstall of FF.

As a sidenote CCleaner is a nice little tool to detect and fix errors in registry. I would run it before doing anything else.

Search your registery for "Primawega" and delete every entry. No quarentee, but I have managed to get rid of stuff that way in the past.

I can recommend you this antivirus from http://www.eset.com/
The only thing that ever found and destroyed every malware, spyware etc that I had on my comp.

Hey all, thanks for your suggestions. After trying many Malware packages, each suggesting they are THE BEST!, and even CCleaner (a program we have used many times over the years and useually works out), I had a closer look in Add/Remove Programs. There was something in there called Loudmo Contextual Ad Replacer! Uninstalled that and the problem has gone away!

No idea at all how that got there!

What do these people get off on? Why on Earth would I want this feature???
                          Kind Regards,
