While there is a discussion about CPU vs GPU now add CLOUD to it... This is an interesting idea...bad for render companies, great for architectural studios....

You can run most rendering software on a cloud, including V-Ray RT / V-Ray Standalone, if you had a mind on it. One issue that has popped up with this approach is that you have to send your render data (scene description plus textures) to machines that you do not control.
