  • 3dsmax & Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition R2 64bit: using experience

    Hi all vray users,
In my company we're upgrading our little renderfarm and we intend to use a 64bit version of Windows+3dsmax+vray.

Our IT guys ask me if it's possible to run 3dsmax+vray on Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition R2 64bit.

The Autodesk website reports these OS requirement:

    "Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional x64 or Microsoft® Windows® Vista 64 bit (Business, Premium, or Ultimate) "

In this forum I've read that someone use 3dsmax with Win Server 2003. What are your experiences with this combo and in particular with the 64bit version both workstation and renderslave??

    Thanks in advance.

Hi, our server is 2003 x64. We used to run it as part of the network render machines and there was no problems with max. now it is the slowest machine on the network and it is used only as file server.

      thank you for your reply.

I'm testing mixed versions both 3dsmax and Vray but I've some problems with some geometries.
I've found that some geometries with instanced editpoly modifier applied were rendered different on the 64bit machine, if I convert these geometries into editable poly the render is OK.

      Does anyone have same experience?

      Thanks in advance
