  • Stereoscopic depth of field and codec questions

    Hi!
I am currently working on a stereoscopic animation and have some questions.

Do you still use DOF or is that wrong if your eyes can adjust to a real depth in a stereoscopic movie?
I have seen Avatar but i cant remember how they handled that.

    Another problem is the codec.
The movie has to be in highres side by side configuration.
So i have to deal with a resolution like 3460 * 1050 pixel.

Every codec that i tried gave an error, except for uncompressed AVI which is to slow for the player to handle.
Quicktime is also not readable by the stereoscopic player or i could have simply used an image sequence container like PhotoJPG.
    Reflect, repent and reboot.
    Order shall return.

your right that your eye is supposed to adjust but if filmed there could still be DOF, I would suggest a little for really far away, just what helps sell the image.

have you tried the h264 codec? there are a bunch of cards out now that will hardware decode, I think :P

There was DOF everywhere. It was a bit annoying as you couldn't focus on anything other than the parts the film makers thought important...

IMO you should use DOF because 3D screens are still flat. There is no real depth so your eyes wont 'create' any DOF.
