  • Office Chairs Redux

Back on the topic of office chairs. Are "higher" priced chairs worth the extra money? My $5 garage sale chair finally cracked in the middle of the cushion, and some foul odor is emanating from it. It smells like pungent feet.

I was reading reviews on chairs, and the Humanscale Freedom appears to come out on top very often. The problem is that it costs over $1,000...:

Anyone have this or tried one? Any other recommendations? And please don't recommend that ugly yoga-ball chair... It may be comfortable to the butt, but uncomfortable to my eyes.

I had back problems some 10 years ago and after trying a lot of chairs got me 2 (work-home) of these: http://www.skye-chair.com/flash/sites_en/impression.htm with full options.
They are not cheap but I prefer them over my bed If you spend 1000's on PC/Software you should not save on your health !

I had an aeron at work, and sure it was nice. At home I just have a chair I found at office max. I made sure it was one of the models that has alot of customization. I wouldn't say its on par with the aeron, but at a fraction of the price, it's good enough.

I've got an aeron at work - fine but the webbing rips the ass of your jeans if you work post hours . I've got a knock off eames group aluminium chair at home and it's great - pretty much two rails with leather stretched between so you're suspended by the chair as opposed to having a structure to sit on - really comfortable.

HumanScale Freedom chair is technicaly the best chair you can find on the market. We have about 60 in the office, and everybody enjoys them. Their mechanism makes ajustements obselete, as almost nobody really ajust their chair, and as your posture changes depending on your task. The weight distributed on the seatpan automaticaly ajust the chair, so perfect tension, no matter if you are 120 or 250 pounds...

The only people that do not like this chair are really small people, cause they feel lost in it, ( 90-110 pounds small girls...)

            Im using a : http://www.hermanmiller.com/Products/Seating :

It is quite fair on my posture and back, my specific chair is : Embody Series. I would say its quite fair on the back, but not to what i expected given the 1k price.

*I also had this site linked not sure if it has competetive prices since it was a while ago, but u can check it out anyways. : http://www.sit4less.com/brands-1/herman-miller/12b

Hmm Humanscale Freedom wins. Problem is that it's over $1,000. If I was guaranteed more work than I think it would be a no-brainer.

For $1,000, I can buy a nicer sofa set and an iPad... That's more money than I spent on my bed.

The Embody series beat out the Aeron according to some reviews. HS Freedom came out near top on all of them. I'm not too crazy about how the back looks to the Embody. If it was just a little bit wider towards the top I'd think they'd look cool.

I couldn't wait - for now I just picked up a $80 chair at Staples. Probably not the most comfortable, but it does the job at the moment (better than what I had.)

I guess you spend more time in your task chair than on your sofa or in bed ? .. A worktool, just like a good screen and a big nice computer.....

This thread got me searching, and after looking at Target.com they seem to have a good selection of desk/office chairs that fall somewhere between the super cheap and the super expensive chairs that I am used to seeing...and several with attractive design as well.
