  • animation with skydomes.

I'm wanting to do an animation. A flat background is no good. So correct me if I'm doing something wrong. I create a hemisphere geosphere. copy instance and scale. Do a booleon and apply a sky texture map. Any good free skydome texture maps out there?

    1. Does the sunlight have to be inside the dome to work? If not I assume I reduce the opacity of the dome so that light gets through.

    2. Do I put the texture map in the enviroment slot or should I keep a plain blue color. I guess thats up to me

    3. oppacity decrease descreases the ability to see map?

    any other tips.

I feel retarded asking these questions.....but if you don't ask

a sky dome wont allow environment gi through - its not a viable solution unless you precalculate gi without it and then unhide it for the final render

your best option is to dump a spherical sky panoramic image in the environment slot

why not just put your environment in your environment slot.

if i just put the sky in the enviroment map then when the camera turns the same sky view goes with it and looks silly?

You need to change the mapping coordinates to environ and then choose spherical , instance the bitmap for more control.

Some suggestions I can add would be to either...

make an HDRI of your sky/ land and use this in the environment slot or...

use the VRayMatWrapper to contro your sky/ ground materials better and tweak the GI in this way.

I've used both of these procedures and they have acceptable results.

your sky doesnt "go" with it if its a sperically mapped environment
