2011 - merged files losting bitmaps?

I have to re-render a job I did in 2010 a month ago, but for some reason the file will not open properly now. I was able to merge the contents into a new file in Max 2011, but all the bitmaps are gone. Not just broken paths, but just blank bitmap shaders etc.

Does anyone know some trick/setting that might cause this? I have not had it happen before.

Nope; this is not related to V-Ray unfortunately.

some times ago it happened to me as well
an it was simply opening a max 2010 in max 2010!!!
all bitmaps gone, not only the path was missing but also the bitmap name so all the rebuilding process was a pain

Couple of guys here had seen this with opening old scenes in 2010.

They were hoping an upgrade to 2011 would fix it...

Maybe you could try merging the file on a 32bit machine in 32bit max 2011 and see if that works
