as the title says. seems i cant find any info anywhere on google. how do people like facebook and youtube do it where you upload a video and it converts it to flash for you. or are you uploading to their server then someone on staff makes the conversion for you (i doubt)

The You tube server converts it or your cameras software does. There are Flash Video Converters in After Effects, Premiere and Final Cut.....

Are you using a CMS or just basic HTML?

If you're using Drupal, something like this would be right up your alley.

Or you may want to take a look at Gallery2 , I think it can transcode user uploaded video.

Not sure what you would do for hat, I use Vimeo mainly cause I like the image quality. How they do it I have no idea. But with Vimeo it happens server side. I was uploading Quicktime H264 and they converted to flash.

I build my own CMS with php and mysql. currently ive done some sites which you just link the youtube address to your profile on the site. but ive had a client ask me if their site can do it on its own without having to register on youtube.

Web page looks bad, but product works ok. It will transfer it to flash or wich ever format you wish.. quite fast and versatile.

obviously people are not really reading the specific convertion needs. the 1st link sea2stars posted was the most useful since they tell you how to set it up yourself. however in doing that research i came across the fact that the company i use for hosting doesnt suppose ffmpeg or flvtools

                      Bummer.

If they use Firefox, and you can't do it server side, then this might be an alternative.
