  • Your thoughts on adobe CS5 (photoshop mainly but also other)

    Hi all

I'm running CS3 at work. Is it worth upgrading to CS5? I mainly use photoshop, but thinking of also giving AE a try.

I remember there was some issue with HDRI or soemthing in CS4. Any suprises like that in CS5 or is it well worth the upgrade?
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

I just upgraded to Cs5....so I only have had little time to play with it.

The main reason I upgraded was that Photoshop & After Effects are now 64 bit....yeah!! [now my 16 Gb of memory can actually be used]
This is a godsend when you work on 32bit High res images [5000px +] [no more scratch disk to slow things down]
Working in after effects in running on 32 bit on these types of images is just not fun at all & sometimes near impossible.

Have successfully rendered AE projects on 64bit that only crashed using the old 32bit version.

I guess it's like Max & Vray....once you go to 64bit verions ....you can't imagine how you ever worked on 32bit befor.

    Cheers

none of my Photoshop plug-in work under the x64 PS, which stinks.

... I'm on Cs3 because of that .exr transparency behaviour... any news about that one?

compared to cs4, after effects and premiere improved a lot.
photoshop isn't bad either. i like the way bitmaps dragged into the window are now instant smart objects.

I hate cs5 and cs4. Don't like the way it docks images. Hate that they changed some keyboard shortcuts too. cs3 is just fine for me.

If you have After effects then you can get around it!!!

In AE you can tell the software to ignore the alpha channel & colour correct the gamma soo much better with the 'HDRI Compander' effect.
Then just export out a 16 bit tiff for Photoshop work [which you need to do in PS anyway as it does virtually nothing in 32 bit.]

                Cheers

Thanks for the HDRI compander tip !
I tried to avoid using of another piece of software because it would be ME who will have to convert everyones images with AE
