Data Slowing Down Over Network

This started happening some time ago but it has just got alot worse mainly when using After effects - its takes a long time to load a composition and it regularly hangs to think about something, probably every 2 to 3 minutes for a minute.

I moved all the source movie files onto my computers storage drive and the problem stops.

Does anyone know how I should approach this ?

Not an IT guy but guessing you need a bit more detail here to get a reply......what is your infrastructure / OS / cabling / networking and so on
One thing to look for is a full network drive and to check your server and see the performance monitor and see if it has enough ram and free drive space......
