transparent earth like planet

I would like to make a little movie short for my son and in which him and I will viewing several aerials or space like photos of the Milky Way and I would like to have a "Hologram" type earth pop up and spin. Kinda like the death star plans or in the new Predators movie... Any ideas... Thanx

I don't have any specific ideas about how to get this done, but it doesn't seem too hard. I would use a combination of VrayLightMats and VrayEdgeTextures to get the hologram effect. Here's a really good link to use for the earth textures: Visible Earth. Those maps are pretty high-res, and they should be a good start for making some masks to use for your holographic earth materials.
