  • Ocean waves lapping on beach

Does anyone have any pointers for the best way to do this? I can think of a couple that might work, but i'm not sure how well and testing time is limited.

Our camera will need to start out at sea and move in over the top of the shoreline.
Thought about dreamscape and particles where it intersects the beach but i'm not sure it'll look too hot, and theres realflow which can handle it on paper, but thats a bit serious and i'd prefer a simpler option.
Theres video tricks, but i'll need a fairly wide bit of footage that holds up as you go over it. I dont have much faith in being to find a suitable clip, but i'll be looking anyway.

Anyone else had to do this before?

Haven't tried myself, but RERender did came with a nice idea of using footage of a shore line to generate the a displacement of the waves:

Unfortunately the videos are no longer there :/

Yeah I saw that - problem is you're limited to the footage and we're not able to film it ourselves. I'm cruising some stock footage sites but i'm not hedging my bets on it.
We also need to start some way out, so i'll need to blend between that and another method for the sea itself.

If I can find some good footage it's top of the list though.

I haven't tried it out yet, but Vue X-Stream looks interesting, and the X-Stream version integrates within max ui

I never got to finish it but I started setting up something similar that was a combination of a material effect on the sand, and geometry. The wave geometry relied on an animated BerconGradient that mimicked the lap/recede cycle, and the material used a similar setup where on the sand, based on height, a "wetness" map creeped up and down with similar timing to the wave geometry. Depending on how close you get this could easily decept the eye!
