  • help with exporting

The company in China is giving me trouble over the format I am sending them to make a mold... Not sure if its me or them... But here is the response... I sent them a autocad dwg, 3d max 3ds and just about every filetype I can export to...

"Since all the files we received here couldn't be revised or worked. I am sure it's not difficult for Eric to convert the file to STP, so please you ask him again to revise the file to STP and can be worked by us. Then I will ask the designer here to revise the rest for you.
But if he really couldn't do that, then I need to talk to the CAD designer here to see what's the expenses if he re-draw the file."

thanx for help you can offer

Will they accept a STL file?
If they are asking for a STP it means they want a solid file. If you do a direct conversion from mesh to a surface or a solid you will loose the smoothness of the surface and end up with a faceted object. The easiest way is to download the evaluation version of Rhino and then down load the evaluation version of T-splines for rhino. The problem with this is if You haven't built your mesh as as a low poly model you will run into problems with the conversion taking a really long time. Another way is to re build it as a spline cage over top of your mesh. put a surface on it and Convert it to a IGS as they have to be able to see that file format and they will be able to convert the IGS surface file to a solid.
