I've got an architect client that did his model in sketchup. is there something i can tell him to do so that when he exports his model to me, it will keep his materials or at least export the geometry in pieces that i can single out to apply material to them?
How do people on the forum deal with this?

what version of max are you using.. max 2011 has native .skp import..
2010 has it in the subscription pack...as export goes he can "group by material" then export..

I natively import the sketchup file into 2010 and 2011. Select by material and then just replace material. However glass is a problem as sketchup people never seem to model it correctly. Butt jointed glass are never "butt jointed" in a way to be useful for vray to render. I often get huge glass planes and mullions are just drawn as lines on the front face of the glass.

I'm using max 9. When he exports, does he have an option to export to "max" ?
