  • Subscription Advantage Pack for 3ds Max 2011 - IRay

    and

So I have been searching all day for more information about the IRay portion of this. Specifically what IRay does _not_ do. What standard Max features do not work with IRay, and how does it compare to RT GPU? The main reason for asking this, is that my boss is convinced that it's all perfect and magical. That we can just use IRay and buy a few good video cards instead of upgrading to VRay 2.0. Has anyone seen a page like this for IRay? http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/rt10...d_features.htm

    Thanks!
    Ray

The cloud iray looks pretty impressive. I wonder if it is a paid service or if subscribers get to utilize Autodesk's cloud? I am curious to see how this all works out.

I thought about the 100MB of disk space they give you when you subscribe to the $450.00 a month Buzz Saw, but they have teamed up with Amazon and are running some of their beta labs in those servers. I am beta testing some web calibration now and the web space is unlimited and the service might be free when it goes public.

It would probably be best to wait until the 29th when you will be able to see what and how works in iray. Like any software though, it is neither perfect, nor magical

Some things that are different from V-Ray RT: first, it is not an ActiveShade renderer (meaning you cannot modify the scene and see your changes immediately), and second, it does not support DR, so you are limited to the amount of GPUs and CPUs that you can put in one machine.

          Best regards,
          Vlado

Vlado, will VRay 2.0 support the substance maps?

They work fine even now with the regular V-Ray 1.5. As for V-Ray RT, yes they will be supported.

Cool and powerful yes. Replacement for VRay No! Lots and Lots and Lots of things that VRay can
do that are not do-able with IRay. This is a 'Physically based' engine that doesn't support any kind
of Non Physical workflow. All of the trick and cheats you will use in a renderer to get your projects
out the door are not going to work in IRay.
Having said that, the fact that there are NO Gi parameters to set up can take a big chunk off your
                dev time as well!
Getting animations to render with out noise sparkling everywhere would be problematic as well.

                Regards
