-) node based material editor..I'm ignoring it for now, but:

-) classic matedit. forced to use a new map browser, taken from the node based editor.
I haven't seen such a crappy design for a long time. Why make a new browser, that is utter shit, compared to the old one?
It doesn't remember position, It uses strange context menus that trigger from even stranger positions. Whats up with the 3px wide scroll bars? Why is the drag-scroll direction inverse? Why does it suck so much???
Please I want the old one back, everything takes me 3x as long now!

-) DR is unstable compared to the rock solid DR with 2010...Vray issue?

-) The caddies...How are new hello kitty style buttons making a difference to previous nodal dialogs? Why is every new "feature" looking different, it's like Max is turning into a potpourri of (bad) UI design experiments.

-) How can I disable Vault. It's no longer a seperate plugin. How can I track missing bitmaps now, as a non-Vault user?

-) Snaps! Ok, there are a few improvements. The small circle for dragging is fine. But the most important aspect af snap is now broken: toggle it on the fly with "S" during a drag action!

It seems that everytime Autodesk makes an attemt to fix something it turns out worse than before.
I'm not a big ranter, I don't care about ribbon or not, etc, but this time it's too much!

I hate these things, and as far as I know they can’t be disabled. I understand they want to make the interface more contemporary and streamlined, but these things are just plain buggy, and I find them hard to read and control compared to the old dialog boxes. It is funny, when you bring up issues like his with Autodesk they get super defensive and say that we are just not willing to change. The truth is that I am willing to change as long as the change functions better and smoother than what I was doing before.

    Try this…

The node based material editor is nice, and almost seems necessary moving forward, but I feel the interface overall is very disjointed/unorganized as you mentioned with some of the other new features.

I might also switch back to the old map browser since it seems the new one has removed the "selected" function.

I'm just using the old mat browser - keep it to the simple editor for most things, then i'f i'm working on a complicated material i'll flip into node view for 10 mins.

        The other ones? yeah...

Are there really any noticeable speed improvements?

I liked how you can have custom libraries already loaded. That was nice. The reason I switched back was due to lack of the button that "Updated Scene Material from Library." I had a project where I was using that, and I couldn't find an equivelant. There is probably a script for it on Script Spot.

For the most part I like 2011, but I do games not CAD stuff now so for games it's a lot better in many ways.
How can I track missing bitmaps now,

Go to Script Spot and Find Colin Senners R-Link Bitmaps, its way better and he is on this forum.

Caddies suck for CAD guys, us game guys like them, less intrusive....could use a bit of work though, they jump around at bit, be nice if you could lock them down.

I love the new material editor, needs some work as well but I use the old style cause of muscle memory but I am liking the new one for showing shared maps and instancing and for complex materials it rocks.

Kinda wish they would have gone the Zoo Keeper route but Node Joe was around first and cheap to take over I guess.

It is odd they can set some stuff backwards for those that like but not all. But max is a fankenapp so no shock I gueess

                    quoted for agreement.

I think there is a lot more node based UI stuff coming. The NJ guys are working with AD now. I hope we see a lot of development in this area. I'd love to see it as developed as Grasshopper for Rhino. I beta tested Zoo Keeper and have putzed with the demo now and again. It has a lot of potential but was pretty buggy up to the last time I tried it. I'd buy it anyway if I didn't think it's already on its way from AD.

I have to say the Viewport Canvas tool is worth the upgrade.

We have owned 10 licenses of NJ from the beginning, so I love Slate by default. I can't operate in the old one anymore.
