dont get me wrong...i dont mean it in a bad way...its just that this forum used to be mega busy....few days off iand i had to reserve 2 hours to browse all the threads i ve missed....and now...its just soooo quiet...weird
I'd imagine there are a lot of people like me who read daily, but rarely post because most of the time the answers to my questions are a quick forum search away. I'm sure it'll ramp up again when VRay 2.0 comes

I'd say it's a rather subjective feeling; looking at the forum statistics, the user activity (new posts/threads and user visits) is pretty much the same as the previous months/years, in fact slightly bigger. There are large spikes around each new release
I'd say that any forum that is related to the construction industry is down these days. Look around at all the Architect offices that are gone, developers that have disappeared, etc. It's just the times we live in.

This is what I think too. At least that is my reality. Since 2008 and the real estate market crash work slowed down immensely. Things are still slow. There still appears to be no job recovery, the dollar keeps dropping, nations are starting a currency war... I'd like to go on a long vacation until things get sorted... it will probably take a few more years.
For the whole September:
New threads:
2008: 325
2009: 340
2010: 511
New posts:
2009: 2552
2008: 1926
2010: 3418
For week 40 (start of October):
New threads:
2008: 64
2009: 82
2010: 83
New posts:
2008: 499
2009: 486
2010: 480
So, regardless of what it looks like, overall the numbers are pretty close to last year's, for the other months as well (there are more posts in September this year because of the V-Ray 2.0 announcement).
These are counts for all the forums (V-Ray for 3ds Max, V-Ray for Maya, V-Ray RT, Phoenix etc).
Also keep in mind that by default, the forum does not show posts older than a certain number of days. You can adjust the trim period in your user preferences.
maybe there's less general chat in take 5 these days?
less way off topic stuff for sure
- that graph : better sell my million dollar stock holding ahaha
