  • 3DS MAX 2011 Sloooooow

Does anybody have an issue with 3DS MAX 2011 loading very slow? Mine takes about 3 minutes to load.

I’m not working in 2011 as of yet but I find 2010 loads slow when I load it in for the first time. It seems the more crap they design into the software, the longer it takes to fire-up. Does this happen the first time or every time you load it?

it's all the time. It sits on Initializing 3ds Max... for about 2 minutes and then it goes into loading plug-ins for 30 seconds and then Starting 3ds MAX... for another minute. I see a garbled screen for about a minute until my default scene finally opens.

mmmm…..I wish I had the answer. It could be an OS issue but I could be grasping at straws. Sorry I could not help.

whats the size of your scene in MB Bobby? How complex is the geometry? are you loading the file from the network?
my max takes some sime more to load as well.....it could be hanging on some plugin. Has this always been happening?

          BTW...
have you tried removing autograss? Mind you ...my Autograss licence has gone apeshit AGAIN...so i am definitelly saying bye bye to autograss.
I am not gonna spend another two days emailing woth Lynn to find out what caused the problem....GOD this has been the worst investment i ve done in years!
Might be actually worth cracking that piece of crap so it starts working properly :-/

glorybound description sound pretty normal to me, and also if i just start up an empty max.
so i just give it the time, i need some time too to "start up" in the morning
            best regards

changing the camera setting is painful as well. It'll take seconds for it to respond. I don't think Autograss is the cause because it is an interior scene.

does it start faster the second time (if it's cached in ram)?
my max takes about 15 sec to load with SSD.

Yeah it's a bit slow, Revit too, I just start it and go get something to drink while it starts up.

Same here - slow on first load, faster after that.

Gotta get one of those SSD drives......

Max 2011 is really slow and eats too many memory.
It's the opposite direction of XBR.
I have a plan to buy a SSD too when I upgrade my system at next spring.

Mine max taking ages to load... not scenes just simple max itself... Thats why I always start 10x max... just for crashes ^^

I find 2011 a bist faster to load as 2010, but 2011 is a lot less stable for me. Whenever my scene reaches the million poly mark, it's just one crash after another (often with file corruption). 2010 was much more stable. So I normally start a scene in 2011 (because I actually like the viewport canvas and the new snapping system) and finish it in 2010.
I'm not sure what's causing it, it could be some plugins or perhaps a video driver issue. A lot of the crashes somehow seem related to the ribbon.

same here. Don't have any plugins except for rpc, and it takes sometimes even 5 minutes on in I7920 with 6GB Ram to open on a XP64 machine
                              Kind Regards,
