Although rendering methods may be basically different in ARNOLD and VRay, the solution with which the rendering of the further detail and further GI of Hair (Curve) can be done at high speed is expected by VRay.

yes me too, i think all older max users have seen the pepe videos 10years ago and they impress today aswell.... the renderengine based on arnold comming out for XSI would be very powerful...i am not a technican but maybe vlado could say something behind the technic of arnold and the future of vray in compare to it beside version 2.0...

          cheers,

I used arnold for a lot of years in commercials and it was a great renderer - stupidly fast ray tracer, great gi (for exteriors more so) and a really simple material. At the time though marcoss wasn't concentrating on features that would have kept us using the renderer and vray 1.4x came along with it's render time displacement and fast motion blur which totally swung it for use. Arnold would have killed everything else back then with a bit of structure on the programming and feature list and since it's now being developed in concert with a big animation house it'll get that.

All that said, I'm using vray now, arnold doesn't exist and when it does come out for max, who knows what vray will be doing then. Exciting times
