Workgroup or Domain?

Hi everyone,
I use workgroup but in few weeks i'm on "vacation" for 6 weeks to Peru . The last time I left my computers on but now I would like to control them remotly in a better way (wake them, turn them on, etc)...so far I can wake them via Logmein if their is one computer ON in my network then I found online that if i have them under a domain I could do what i want.
i'm wondering what you guys have? if it's domain could you point me info how to set them? ...if it's not complicated and make sense I would like to do it.

You need at least one pc with a server OS to setup a domain. A workgroup can just be a bunch of workstations

Thanks, I don't think I will go to that road....keeping a server ON would be same to have a render node on to wake up the other ones.
