error creating particle view

just tried to make some particles and couldn't get particle view to open and couldn't find any obvious threads in here or on AREA. So before I start un-installing Phoenix1.2, vray2 etc. has anybody had this before and know a straight forward solution?
(I'm just about to install the hotfix 4 to see if that helps even though there is no documented issue with PV)

the hotfix4 seemed to fix it...could have just been a glitch. Sorry to waste your time
