  • FFD modifier

I'm using a FFD box modifier to deform an object (basically controlling and smoothing some bloating of the geometry), I've used "set volume" to adjust the lattice to control the underlying vertices that I would like to control and can get an general deform using multiple cp's that is ok. However when I then move individual control points I find that they don't deform the vertices close to where I adjusted the lattice with "set volume", but seems to be deforming the vertices around the default position of the original lattice. I've read a bit on CGtalk that FFD is a bit broken, it this correct or am I doing something wrong (I don't often used FFD)

    thanks
    Simon

Try the variable ffdbox modifier instead of the fixed ones, as 2x2x2, 3x3x3.
I found it works more reliable.

      Thanks for the reply Marc,
I am in fact using the ffdbox with a 3x6x6 grid. Maybe I'm misunderstanding how ffdbox's work. I move the ffd grid at the "set volume" level, so rather than being an even grid, the grid lines are now bunched together over the area of geometry that I want to adjust. But when I move the control points the underlying geometry doesn't move, but the geometry under where the original evenly space grid "was" moves. It's as though the "set volume" level is completely ignored.
But oh well, move on, do it another way, is the max mantra.
