  • Linear EXR display DARK in Composite, but fine in VFB and PDPlayer and Photoshop

OK so I'm importing my exr's into Composite 2011, but it dislplays as linear (in ohter words it dislays dark) In Photoshop it knows it is a linear image and automatically displays it correctly. In Max and the VFB, it displays correctly due to me using LWF and the whole gamma 2.2 story.

How can I tell Composite to display correctly, without applying an effect to my EXR to force it to a certain gamma?
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

I want to know this too.
Same thing happend to me few hours ago and I had to
add gamma correction to all inputs.

If you import tiff, there is option to use it as raw, but exr doesn't have this option.

I found this video tut on the subject:
      http://enigmafx.wordpress.com/2010/1...ply-a-viewlut/

but an easier way is to drop an sRGB on your Player's Display Passthrough as per here:

When render with vfb, just set the gamma 2.2 on V-Ray :: color mapping
        or use Max framebuffer.

I geuss you've never used Composite. My VRay settings are fine, it was composite that was the problem, but all you do is to add an sRGB node over your Player's display as a passthrough effect. That's almost like setting 2.2 in Max preferences.

Btw, have you got lens blur to work?
It has really fancy addons compared to normal blur node,
but it wont work correctly with z-pass.

No I havent played with it yet, I'm not too clued up on Composite (or Toxik). If I had access to either After Effects or Nuke, I'd prefer to use that, but I geuss I have to use the tools at hand

Of course you're vray setting is fine. but add sRGB node to all footage is not a convenient work. So if you just render with gamma 2.2 on color mapping, there is no need to add that nodes.

you're not adding sRGB to any footage. It only gets added to the player (in other words your viewer - your screen). It is a passthrough effect. In other words when you render out your footage from Composite, it will be dark again because nothing was added to the footage. It is still linear - only to your player or viewer in Composite was effected. Look at the link to the video I posted further up for better understanding.
(in VRay I'm rendering with "Don't affect colors (adaptation only)" for more accurate results
