is 3d product rendering expensive? My last work .. how much would you charge for it?

Another stupid question form luke Recently I did this for a supplement company : www.speciesnutrition.com
On their website they have not too good quality photographs of their products so I offered them 3d renderings.
Now when it came to paying for this again I have problems ...
First I'm interested how much you would charge for it and then I will tell you how much guy offered me to pay for my work

Depends on the material you get from client and the resolution etc. they are asking.

why... well I'm in desperate situation looking for any work... so my plan was to look for companies that have not too good quality product presentation and offer them something better.
Truth is I was hoping for the best that the guy will appreciate quality. In my situation it's better to have those lousy 300$ than nothing I guess... LIFE!!!

I'm not 100% I follow - but were you commissioned to do these renderings by the company? Or did you undertake them yourself & then offer to sell them?

Yes the Company agreed that I should do the renderings.

approach companies with the best images and tell them 3d can save them money over a photo shoot - plus if many products are similar (like the vitmains) new items will get discount price
I don't think anyone (apart from a super salesman) will ever sell something to someone who is not already thinking of doing new material.
Plus he may feel kind of insulted.. "what you say my expensive photos are rubbish?"
good luck in the search - have you tried approaching advertising agencies and designers - they may want CG work

oh - didnt see they agreed - but surely they must agree price first!
(imho I think they need a bit more oomph in the specular highlights)

Sounds like you are in a tough situation Luke. The problem is that as soon as people sense you are willing to work for €300 or even less, they won't pay you any more for it. Don't let them sense that you are desperate.
I also just started off my own business and i found that there are exactly two kind of clients : the ones who don't understand how a single image can cost more than 100€ (clearly because they have no idea), which are often also the ones that end up wanting more and more changes and don't pay on time. Secondly there are the ones that are happy to pay a decent price for decent quality images. Try finding that second type and always set the price before doing any work.

I just tried my luck with Google Adwords and while it's quite an expensive marketing tool, it seems to be worthwile! You can narrow the area down to your home area as most people prefer to work with someone close enough to be able to meet.
