  • Pro Engineer help - How to export model from 3dsmax to Pro/E ??????

Does anyone know how to do this. Pro/E cannot import obj...and I cannot seem to find a list of what it can import.

Any help really appreciated as this is turning out to be a nightmare !

I'm afraid I can't check right now but have you tried STL?

I can't seem to export to STL or IGES. If I dont select my meshes, IGES and STL show up as an option to export but if I select them they are not in the export list. I did read that only certain types of surfaces can be exported in these formats.

It seems that Pro/E is a big pain in the arse when it comes to importing from max.

Bah! Truth be told, I've only ever had to get stuff the other way (Pro/E -> Max). I once had to get a character model into Solidworks but the guys who needed it had no concept of polygons/meshes, they just sat spinning it round & whimpering.

It's crap that max can't export STL selections though. Even Zbrush has an STL export.

Ive got zbrush so maybe I can export directly from that. Saying that though, I just checked the blender feature list and it seems to support the Pro/E format. Whether thats just export I dont know...could be a life saver !!

I can't check as we don't have Pro/E ourselves but Google does show a lot of DXF/DWG importers.

Well, I cannot find the zbrush STL export. Not on my list, unless of course its an additional plugin. Blender can only import PRO/E which is of no use at all to me. Ive tried exporting from max as a DXF and it just doesnt seem to work. The model I have is very complex and the dxf file only ends up as a 74k file..whereas an obj export of the same file is about 1 gig.

you should be able to export your meshes as stl in max. as far as i know, pro e should be able to read dxf files too.

                        Try DEEP VIEW it's FREE...
I have had great sucess using this software to open CAD files that would continuously crash every other software I tried. It is probably the best file conversion software out there... it's stable & works well

You need to download the Right Hemisphere [same company & also free] 3DS MAX Impoter/expoter to export out as a Right hemisphere file format
The DEEP VIEW stand alone can then open theright hemisphere file format & convert this to any of the formats below

                        http://www.righthemisphere.com/suppo...le_Formats.pdf

                        Hope this helps

Ive downloaded deep view. I can actually import the OBJ file into deep view but it will only let me save as a RH file. I cannot find a link to the max importer/exporter...
